Executive Summary

The Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks qualified applicants to provide Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) Services. The SNAP-Ed mission is to improve the likelihood that persons eligible for SNAP will make healthy food choices within a limited budget and choose physically active lifestyles consistent with current Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the USDA food guidance. The SNAP-Ed vision is to educate, connect, and support individuals as they attempt to live healthier lives on a budget through direct education, targeted social marketing efforts, environmental strategies to encourage healthy food selection, and use of technology to reach people and communities. Applicants may choose to apply to one or more of the following Special Populations Priority Projects under RFA HHS0004937 Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) Special Populations Priority Project: Farmers Market Priority Project: Evidence-based Projects that promote SNAP Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Services delivered in Partnership with farmers' markets. Corner Store or Grocery Store Priority Project: Evidence-based Projects that promote SNAP Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Services delivered in Partnership with corner stores and/or grocery stores. Low-Income Military Communities, Veterans, and/or Families of Veterans Priority Project: Evidence-based Projects that focus on providing nutrition education, physical activity education/opportunities, and/or health promotion activities to low-income veterans and their families.
